Class IV Ball Mounts For 2" Receiver Hitches When matching a ball mount and trailer hitch ball, the ball hole in the mount should be no more than 1/16" larger than the diameter of the ball shank. Also, pay attention to the thickness of the ball mount tongue compared to the length of the ball shank. The ball shank should fit through the ball mount and still have enough room to add the nut and a lock washer and still have at least one thread visible beneath the nut when tightened. Use a torque wrench to tighten nut to recommended torque.
