The Jeep company may have never been formed if not for the US military's decision to invite 135 different car companies together to bid on a contract to design and manufacture a new military vehicle. That was 1939. Willy-Overland and Ford were eventually given contracts. Willy-Overland eventually became Jeep, and we have many custom designed trailer hitch receivers for many models of Jeep SUVs/SUTs.
